Thinkpad T60 nd R61 variants (61, 60P etc) are $99 now. Get three and three second drive caddies that replace the DVD, they're about $12 ea. 29 mins · Edited · Like Richard Sexton Now get a handful of hard drives, they're stupid cheap now, get 10. Spend the time to do an install of the os from scratch on e newly formatted drive then add patches and apps and when you're happy with it clone the drive onto three others. Now you have three backups (per Federation regulations) of the OS and two of them are in hot spares. Have a spare keyboard, internal and external and an extra mouse and nothing can stop you, especially if you have both a cable and DSL connection. Or just carry enough spares to make your one machine work, this usually means a second machine and this stuff is cheap enough in bulk the incremental cost for 3 over 2 is (much) less than 3 x 1. So, ya know. That particular Thinkpad/Lenovo is one of the best things IBM ever made and they come in a dizzying array of versions and options and all parts ca be repaired or replaced, cheaply as it turns out, because of economy of scale. You can replace any part on this beast if you're careful and patient and most out and out repairs will cost you about $10-$30 in parts for repairs: a keyboard for example is $30, 4 screws and five minutes. Worst case is the screen and I can get those done at a place here for $30 parts and labor - this stuff aint hard.
