How the essential mineral Selenium prevents all viral infctions

Summary: Find some selenium pills in an organic form (the label should say "Selenomethionine" or "Selenocysteine" or "Selenized yeast" in 200 microgram ("mcg") strength, and take 3 for a 200 pound adult, daily. While they take 12 weeks to build up in the body, as long as you take them you should be able to avoid being infected by any virus.

During The Crimean war a new disease emerged - Congo Crimean Fever, the first of a new group of very primitive virus known as "Filoviruses" emerged. Florence Nightingale caught this and while she recovered from the first bout of the infection it made her life a living hell. In 1975 a virus leaked out of a lab making polio vaccine in Marburg germany and gthe next known filovirus was named. The Marburg virus caused a disease even worse than Congo Crimean fever and killed a couple of dozen poeple, being the worst virus known to date. In 1976 in a town with no name near the Ebola river in Zaire a disease broke out that was 99.95 fatal - Ebola virus disease caused by the Ebola virus, the most recently discovered filovirus.

But if Ebola is 99% fatal why doesn't it just spread without bound and wipe out the entire world like some cheesy science fiction film?

It's been known since 1976 [1] that some people don't and cant get Ebola. They're immune to it. In 2010 the Pasteur institute in France did an immuno-assay, testing every tenth person in Gabon, looking for Ebola (Zaire strain) antibodies, and came upon a startling observation [2] - in Baka people of the coastal forest region, between 15% and 33% of people had been exposed to Ebola but had never been sick. That is, they had Ebola antibodies in their blood showing they'd been exposed to the virus but had never been infected or of they had been infected, did not show even one symptom. They were functionally immune to Ebola. This was reportd in the New York Times in 2014[3].

It's beyond the scope of this essay to trace the development of how it was found that selenium prevents Ebola infection, the evidence began to accumulated in 1995, but suffice it to say that in 2014 at Harvard University a researcher named Lipinski was able to explain how selenium prevented infection from the Ebola virus and not just that, it prevented infection from all enveloped viruses, which is most of them. Non-enveloped viruses tend to be plant viruses.

The explanation is pretty simple - if you're familiar with biochemistry and molecular biology, but in laymans terms, the virus has to make an initial chemical bond with the cell it wants to infect, ans this is a particular type of chemical bond called a "disulfide bond" that must occur between the spike of of the virus and the cellular membrane of the host cell. What Lipinski found was that when there is sufficient selenium in the blood, this disulfide bond between the virus and the host cell is inhibited - it can not happen, and if this can't happen, no infection occurs.[4]

This is why the Baka in Gabon are immune. Their lives revolve around the Dika trees, that twice a year produce tree nuts. These are harvested and stored by the Baka, and ground into a paste used in making chicken nut curry which is eaten daily - this is the national dish of Gabon.

The food with the highest level of selenium in the world is seal liver. The second highest is certain tree nuts[5]. The Dika nut, also called the Gabon nut, in Africa, the Tigerwood tree nut, also from Africa and the Brazil nut from South America al tie for the second highest level of selenium in any food. 2 - 4 of these every day will by 12 weeks provide viral immunity (you have to keep taking them, it goes away if you stop) in the best case and should clear up a viral infection quickly in the worse case. Selenium pills are even cheaper than Brazil nuts. Adults should use 200mcg pills, and a 200 pound adult should take 3 of these a day.

Note that selenium pills can be in one of two forms, inorganic (Sodium selenite) which has to be converted by the body into an organic form to be absorbed, or, as an organic form: Selenomethionine, selenocysteine or selenize yeast. These have no potential for overdose, and are the ones to look for.
