When Neonics are banned and the bees haven't stopped dying you'll know why. Nobody wants that, it would mean Monsanto is right when they say neonics are "not the primary cause of colony collapse" and weakens the inertia to ban the correct chemical that has far far worse implication than just bees.

By all means ban neonics - they are indeed harmful in our food supply - but banning *antifungals* is of greater importance *and must be done as well* and this affects far more than just bees, it's also what's killing all the amphibians and bats* - and us - in no small way and now accounts for the second leading cause of death.

Between 2003 and 2007 the most important breakthrough in cancer was made - an enzyme that only occurs in cancer cells in the human body (and dogs, but not cats) and the discovery of a family of chemicals produced by plants they use as a natural antifungal - that reacts with this newly discovered human enzyme ("P450-II CYP1B1) which kills only the cancer cells.

In short, itt appears to be to cancer what vitamin C is to scurvy. These phytoalexins are produced by plants in response to mold and are natural antifungals, but they also play a critical role in the biochemistry of human physiology. When we spray antifungals, they are downregulated in produce almost entirely, if the plant never has contact with mold it is not triggered to produce these natural antifungals, it simply does not need to. This accounts in no small way for the rise n cancer between 1900 and 2000; it's not just industrial pollutants, these were around from 1800 to 1900 as well. That is it's not increased pollution that causes cancer it is our loss of the key enzymatic biochemical pathway that the immune sytem us to use to destroy the defective coupe si cells we colloquially refer to as cancer.

Here's a synopsis: The Cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP1B1 [1] only occurs in cancer cells [2][3]. When certain phytoalexins such as resveratrol and salvestrol are ingested these phytoalexins are converted by the P450 enzyme into piceatannol [4], which is fatal to cancer cells but not human cells [5][6].

Gerry Potter, Brian Schaefer and Dan Burke are the most prominent figures in this field, here's Burke giving a talk on them. Burks is professor emeritus of pharmaceutical metabolism from London university. You'll note he points out this is why some people get cancer and some do not and explains the attenuation of these compounds because of chemicals sprays better than I can do here, he is an excellent speaker having been a professor of pharmacology for many years in Britain.

I'm not sure why polymathism is so surprising, Pauling got two Nobels, once for the nature of the chemical bond and one for the nuclear antiprolifration.
