Preserving old images

Four experiments in increasing the physical resolution of images


I had some old, tiny, but irreplaceable files and rather than toss them out, I played with resizing and re filtering them at higher resolutions to see if I could get more life out of them. Looks like that's possible, at least to some extent. I used Paint Shop Pro 9 and here's what I did.

Expand and filter. A poor and noisy test image it turns out.

A better image and it works but it lacks crispness.

Experiment four shows some promise, and seems to be a good compromise between too smooth and too jaggy. Here's a few more made with it.
